Children of Music for Children of Japan
Charity Piano Recital in Support of Orphans of Tohoku Earthquake
Esplanade Recital Studio May 20, 2011- 7 PM
Throughout the process leading to the conclusion of the event, we faced three challenges. First, identifying the right format, second, securing the right venue, and the third, finding an effective way to help the victims of the earthquake.
We managed to meet them all. It was truly miraculous and surely because the cause is right! Despite the Esplanade booked solid till August, we managed to squeezed out a window in May and are now pleased to confirm the concert will take place at the Esplanade’s Recital Studio. Best venue and best acoustics in town! The performance is scheduled for May 20 at 7 PM. Admission is free. Doors open at 6:30PM.
The theme we decided on is ”The Black Rainbow-Children of Music for Children of Japan” and the concert will feature the sensational Prize Winners of the First International Chopin Piano Competition Singapore 2011. Please view the Program Details of Part 1 and Part II of nhe concert and learn about our charity casue.
We researched how to find the best way to help the victims and identified an organization that specifically supports orphans and children who suffered during and in the aftermath of the Japanese earthquake, tsunami and the radiation of Fukushima Power Plant. Thanks to the help of Fukushima Prefecture we found out about Ashinaga, an organization who provides educational and emotional support for orphans worldwide.
Ashinaga pioneered the concept of Rainbow House. Rainbow House is a day care center to provide emotional support for orphans in the aftermath of Kobe earthquake. Ashinaga plans to do the same for orphans of Tohoku earthquake, and this is going to be the main cause of our appeal. Please see http://www.ashinaga.org/en/.
Music is a wonderful remedy against despair and we felt a combination of music, emotional healing and appealing to help orphans in a tangible way just excellent.
Please help us to spread the word about the concert through your network to encourage others to support this truly worthwhile cause.

1st International Chopin Piano Competition Singapore 2010
The Society started from an idea to promote Chopin and his music in Singapore. We all felt, the best way to achieve this was to support young pianists- his future ambassadors. Hence the idea of Competition. The concept, barely one year old, came to fruition last week. The 1st International Chopin Piano Competition Singapore 2010 is now history.
In the 5 days of Competition over 1000 people visited NAFA’s Lee Foundation Theater to witness 144 contestants competing to the delight of a jury panel comprising 5 distinguished pianists. The level of contestants exceeded expectations. In addition, we were offered three wonderful recitals by Boris Kraljevic, Wojciech Switala and Francesco Nikolosi. The Singaporean and international audience has not left disappointed. Winners were delightful and included pianists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Poland, Thailand, Singapore, Ukraine and Vietnam. Incidentally, the winner in Cat E was a Vietnamese raised and educated in Poland, speaking flawless Polish!.
Chopin’s music in the words of Rubinstein is the universal language of human communication. The Competition was a beautiful tribute to just that. A great avenue for international group young pianist to showcase their skills in front of an international audience. It was also a great promotion of Singapore and Poland.
